Experimental Loose-restriction Network

Experimental Network

For research purposes, this is a service that provides a global IP network for experiments with loose restrictions, separated from the campus network. It is intended to be used for the purpose of file sharing P2P software and security research. Please see below for usage rules and usage application.

Usage Rules

  • The purpose of using the network provided by this service is for research only.

  • This service will be operated on a best effort basis.

  • The Information Technology Center does not implement security measures such as firewalls or IDS/IPS for the networks provided by this service.

    • It is the user’s responsibility to take the utmost care in implementing security measures for connected experimental equipment.

    • If a problem occurs, please contact the Information Technology Center immediately. In the case of an information security incident, please contact not only the Information Technology Center but also the UEC-CSIRT (uec-csirt@uec.ac.jp ).

    • Please take sufficient measures to prevent information security incidents from occurring due to experiment mistakes, etc.

    • Please take sufficient measures in advance to avoid any impact on the campus network.

  • The Information Technology Center will allocate a global IP address block or global IP address necessary for the experiment. It is not possible to use the IP address of a laboratory, etc.

  • Please install the equipment to be connected in the room designated by the Information Technology Center (East Building 3, 4th floor, open input/output room). Wiring to other rooms will not be done.

    • The equipment installation area is separated by partitions, but the room itself is accessible to general users. Please take your own security measures.

    • Direct operation of experimental equipment is only allowed during opening hours of the Information Technology Center Business Office.

    • Experimental equipment must be constantly monitored remotely and a system must be in place to respond immediately in the event of a problem.

  • Please do not conduct illegal or ethically questionable experiments.

    • Do not exchange illegal information or files.

  • If you wish to cancel or terminate your use, please contact the Information Technology Center immediately.

Instructions for Use

  1. Submit your application

Please send the Experimental Network Application Form and Written Pledge from List of Information Technology Center Application Forms to the Information Technology Center Business Office (East Building 3, 4th floor). After screening at the Information Technology Center, a person in charge will inform you via email whether or not the application can be used.

    Caution

The applicant and administrator on the application form must only be educational and research staff of our university.

  2. Be assigned an experimental global IP address/global IP address block

Please consult with the Information Technology Center regarding the network configuration required for the experiment, and have the necessary global IP address or global IP address block allocated. For experimental loose-restriction networks, there is no need to apply for global IP address usage.

  3. Equipment installation

Please install the equipment in the location specified by the Information Technology Center and start using it. After the experiment, please stop the equipment immediately and contact the Information Technology Center (support@cc.uec.ac.jp).
